Lesson Plans
My trail to the top of command begins today with
investigating the teacher at the classroom level. As a beginning teacher there were components
required for lesson planning. I was
given a template on day one and was required to follow it as it was stated. School procedures require staff to submit
lesson plans each Monday in a shared Google Drive Folder. According to the principal’s secretary,
teachers are also required to submit a hard copy to the office. I found that the reason for this change was
because the district is in a NJ QSAC evaluation year. During my search I questioned a couple of my
colleagues to see what their lesson plans looked like compared to my own. I found that almost every teacher used the
same template. Below is an example of
one special education teacher’s lesson plans that followed this template. It includes the date, NJCCS/Next Gen Science
Standards, learning objectives, procedures/strategies/student tasks,
modifications, materials/resources, assessment, and homework. Most of the teachers told me that objectives
for each lesson are taken directly from their curriculum and units. The order in which the material is taught
follow the current unit plans.
Signing off from the USS Keansburg,

Nick, I love this format! And your sense of humor adds to an already interesting presentation.
